Coulee Region Trout Unlimited

I figured I would do a Driftless Dozen as a conversation piece. These are my choices - at least when I wrote the article. What are yours?

This is the author's favorite fly. It is quick and easy to tie, durable, and it simply works! Hans Weilenmann's CDC and Elk is a two material fly - CDC and deer hair.

I can't be the only person that has this wish that I could go back to see what the world looked like before our human population boomed.

I present my idea of what the fishing seasons are in the Driftless Area and seasonal fly, food, and drink choices.

My favorite fishes are sculpin, other than maybe Brook Trout. I will persuade you of their "coolness" - and share some fly patterns.

Relative to the vegetation of the Driftless, establishing a clear picture of what the streams and their riparian zone were like is tougher.

Mortality - the word scientists give to the deaths of individuals - is not as simple as it might first look.
