Why Give to CRTU?
Projects take money. Our fundraising events only take us so far. We are the chapter in the heart of the Driftless area but our actual membership count is small. While we have no shortage of worthy projects and community events, we do have a shortage of funds with which to accomplish our goals.
Some of the ways you can help - we accept donations at any time and many of the options are easy to do:
-
Mail a check to CRTU to the chapter Treasurer, Curt Rees - 202 Zephyr Circle, La Crosse, WI 54601
-
Send your support through Venmo to CRTU - @couleetu
-
Donate from your IRA if you are over age 70 ½ as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
-
Give through your employer’s donation matching programs
-
Turn volunteer hours into donations through employer programs
-
Transfer appreciated investments (stocks) that the chapter can sell for cash
-
Legacy giving – wills and trusts
-
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
A QCD allows individuals age 70 ½ and older to donate up to $105,000 (adjusted each year) to
public charities (501(c)3 organizations such as CRTU) directly from an IRA. QCDs are an effective
way to reduce your tax bill while giving to charity since they are excludable from taxable income for
both parties. QCDs can also be used to satisfy required minimum distributions (RMDs) when an
individual becomes subject to RMD (QCDs given in years prior to the RMD requirement can be used
to offset the RMD amounts). QCDs must be completed prior to December 31 of each year. Of
course, there are some other finer details, so guidance from your tax professional or advisor is key.
Transfer of Appreciated Investments
Donation/transfer of appreciated investments (stocks) to the Chapter allows CRTU to sell those investments for cash to be used for programming and projects.
